Colour code recommended by BIS for ISI marked pipes of different classes
Class 1 2.5 kg/cm² Red
Class 2 4 kg/ cm² Blue
Class 3 6 kg/ cm² Green
Class 4 8 kg/ cm² Brown
Class 5 10 kg/ cm² Yellow
Class 6 12.5 kg/cm² Black
Plumbing Pipe   Pink
PRESSURE RATING OF THE PIPES

Depending on the height to which water is to be lifted, the class or pressure rating of the pipe is decided. Static head, frictional and other losses should be taken into consideration.

Pressure Rating of Pipes Kg/cm² Height to which it can be used safely.
2.5 25 mtrs.(80')
4 40 mtrs.(130')
6 60 mtrs.(195')
8 80 mtrs.(260')
10 100 mtrs.(325')
12.5 125 mtrs.( 400')
FRICTION LOSS CALCULATION
The following Hazen Willam formula should be used for friction loss calculation.

Hf   1.213×10¹º×Q1.852
--  =   --------------------
L             D4.87
×C1.852

Where
Hf - Head loss in mm
Lf - Length of the pipes
       section in mm
Q - Discharge in litre
D - Internal diameter of
      pipes in mm
C - Hazen Willam
      constant 150
